New York Yankee Playoffs
25 Time World Champions

TEAM OF THE CENTURY

Yankee Stadium, The House That Ruth Built, has been the stage for some of the greatest moments in the history of baseball. Appropriately the final game of the last World Series of the millennium took place in the Bronx, with the most prolific baseball team of the century winning their 25th World Series. The Drive For 25 ended with Roger Clemens pitching a masterful game as the Yankees swept the Atlanta Braves to become the first team since the 1993 Toronto Blue Jays to win back-to-back World Series. Along the way the Bronx Bombers set some very impressive records:

  • 12 consecutive World Series victories ties the record established by the Yankees World Series teams of 1927, 1928 and 1932.
  • For only the third time in history one team has swept back-to-back World Series.
The Yankees began their Drive For 25 with a sweep of the Texas Rangers in the Division Series, and a defeat of the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS.
