The Event
The annual YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities Network Central Park Challenge was created in an effort to raise funds to support YAI—a network of not-for-profit health and human services agencies dedicated to building brighter futures for people with disabilities and their families. In the 5K run, Daniel Campos of Brooklyn crossed the finish line first, clocking in with a time of 16:31.
A new addition to the event this year was the Play-Date for a Purpose Initiative, which allowed family members to register their kid and a group of friends as a Play-Date team. The goal of this new initiative was, like other YAI programs, to raise funds to help children with special needs.
YAI offers more than 250 programs in order to provide easier, better lives for over 20,000 disabled individuals and their families in the New York Metropolitan area, as well as New Jersey and Puerto Rico. The National Training Institute offers additional support to numerous agencies which serve people with disabilities throughout the United States.
