The Women’s Sports Foundation welcomed four new members into its International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was hosted by Billie Jean King and Sheila C. Johnson and celebrated not only the new members, but also celebrated the Grand Opening of the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center located within the Sports Museum of America. The 2008 International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame inductees included Olympic gold medalist runner Hassiba Boulmerka, legendary softball coach Sue Enquist, international golfing great Hisako Higuchi and Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller.
Proceeds from the event benefited GoGirlGo!, a program developed by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The primary focus of the program is to help combat the alarming physical and psychological health hazards affecting America’s young girls. GoGirlGo! uses sport and physical activity as an educational intervention that supports girls’ health and wellness in childhood and early womanhood.
