WNBA DRAFT 2004 The 2007 WNBA Draft
Date: April 4th, 2007
Time: Noon
Liberty First Round Pick: 5

Looking to improve from last year’s disappointing season, the New York Liberty drafted All-American forward Tiffany Jackson with the fifth pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft. Jackson averaged 16.8 points and nine rebounds per game during her outstanding 2006-2007 season at the University of Texas. After selecting Jackson, the Liberty then traded veteran Becky Hammon and a 2008 2nd round draft pick to San Antonio in a deal for the rights to Jessica Davenport—the 2nd pick in this year’s draft. Davenport, the star center for the Ohio State Buckeyes, has twice been named as the Big Ten Player of the Year after averaging 20 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last season. The Liberty also received a 2008 1st round pick in the deal. The Liberty selected Maryland guard Shay Doron in the second round and center Martina Webber from Iona in the third round.
