The 2008 US Open:
| Dates: |
August 25-September 7, 2008 |
| Place: |
USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center |
The US Open Tennis Championship returns to New York City with the largest purse of any Grand Slam in the world. World #1 Roger Federer will look to become the first player to win five straight US Open titles since American Bill Tilden won six straight from 1920-1925. With Justine Henin’s retirement, the women’s field is wide open. #1 ranked Ana Ivanovic will face tough competition from Maria Sharapova, the Williams’ sisters and many other talented women.
The US Open has redefined the sports landscape of New York City as one of its premier annual events. With its ability to drive tourism and spending during the two-week period in August and September, the US Open has the greatest economic impact of any sporting event hosted in New York City.
