The New Balance Track & Field Center Events - At the Armory |
The centerpiece of the Armory is its Olympic-class Track & Field Center. The 200-meter MONDO banked track is the only facility of its kind within a 50-mile radius of New York City.
The track currently hosts 105 meets annually, with between 500 and 5,000 competitors per meet. Last year, more than 400,000 athletes, coaches, parents and fans from 1,000 high schools and 36 states visited the Armory. Among New York City schools alone, nearly 50 high schools without their own facilities use the track and field center for regular track practice. The Armory track website (www.armorytrack.com) presents exhaustive results and records data from meets at the Armory.
The facility includes a pole vault runway, an eight-lane sprint and hurdle straightaway, two long jump pits, two high jump areas and a shot put area. The arena seats more than 4,000 people, and those fans have been treated to some classic performances over the years.
The World’s Fastest Indoor Track will host some of the nation’s top high school, college and elite athletes during an indoor track and field season that will consist of 90 meets. Some of the featured events include:
Bishop Loughlin Games - December 20-21, 2008
The Bishop Loughlin Games, the oldest and largest high school indoor track & field meet in the United States, will feature schools and athletes from across the Northeast. The event is expected to draw 8,500 athletes from over 250 schools.
