2007 NFL Draft Recap
LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell was selected by the Oakland Raiders with the top overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Detroit chose their fourth wide receiver in the past six years in the first round with their selection of Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson. Cleveland chose Wisconsin offensive lineman Joe Thomas at #3, followed by Clemson’s Gaines Adams to Tampa Bay at #4 and Penn State offensive lineman Levi Brown to Arizona at #5. Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn slipped all the way down to the Cleveland Browns at pick #22, a pick the Browns acquired in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. Of the many trades during draft day, the New England Patriots made the biggest splash, as they acquired Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders for a fourth-round draft choice. The Giants used their first two picks wisely, selecting Texas cornerback Aaron Ross in the first round and USC wide receiver Steve Smith in the second round. The Jets traded up to select Pittsburgh cornerback Darrelle Revis in the first round and selected Michigan linebacker David Harris in the second round.
N.Y. Giants
The Giants came away from the 2007 NFL Draft with many of their needs filled with great college talent. The Giants got an excellent defensive back from the University of Texas in Aaron Ross with the 20th pick in the first round and followed that up with star wide receiver Steve Smith from USC in the second round. The rest of their picks included DT Jay Alford from Penn State, OLB Zak Deossie from Brown, TE Kevin Boss from West Oregon, OT Adam Koets of Oregon State, S Michael Johnson from Arizona and RB Ahmad Bradshaw from Marshall.

Jets
The Jets made a splash in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, as they traded up in the first round to pick University of Pittsburgh star defensive back Darrelle Revis. By acquiring the 14th pick from the Carolina Panthers, the Jets gave the Panthers a second round pick (#59) and a fifth round pick (#164). In the second round, the Jets traded once again and selected standout linebacker David Harris from the University of Michigan, a defensive stud who led Michigan’s great defense in tackles in 2006. In the trade with the Packers for the #47 overall pick and a seventh round pick (#235), the Jets traded a second round pick (#63), a third round pick (#89) and a sixth round pick (#191). With the only other two draft picks on the day, the Jets selected OT Jacob Bender of Nicholls State and Clemson WR Chansi Stuckey.
