Location: Theatre at Madison Square Garden
Time: 7:00pm
|
In an NBA draft with one of the deepest talent pools in recent history, the Portland Trail Blazers selected potential franchise player Ohio State center Greg Oden with the first overall pick. University of Texas swingman Kevin Durant, the 2007 John Wooden Award winner, went second to the Seattle Supersonics. Forward Al Horford, taken third by the Atlanta Hawks, was one of three players from the national champion Florida Gators taken in the first round. Corey Brewer (7th overall) was taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Joakim Noah (9th overall) will join the young nucleus of the Chicago Bulls.
The Knicks selected DePaul forward Wilson Chandler (23rd overall), a Second Team All-Big East Conference selection last season. In even bigger news for the Knicks, they acquired Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau and Fred Jones in a trade from the Blazers for Channing Frye and Steve Francis. The Knicks also traded a second round pick in next year’s draft to the Blazers for the rights to Syracuse forward Demetris Nichols (53rd overall). Nichols averaged 18.9 PPG and 5.4 RPG for the Orangemen last season and was a first-team All-Big East selection.
