WBA Welterweight Title Boxing Match:
Miguel Cotto vs. “Sugar” Shane Mosley

Where: Theater at Madison Square Garden

Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25 KOs) put his WBA Welterweight title and undefeated record on the line against four-time champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley (44-5, 37 KOs) in front of 17,135 spectators at Madison Square Garden. After 12 thrilling rounds, Cotto successfully defended his title in a unanimous decision.

The 27-year old Cotto remained unbeaten with his victory over the 36-year old, four-time champion Mosley. Cotto and Mosley each landed 248 punches in the close bout; however Cotto landed 37% of his blows compared to Mosley’s 32%. At the end of 12 rounds, judges Glen Feldman and Peter Trematerra each scored the bout 115-113 and Winn Kintz scored it 116-113 in favor of Cotto.

In the undercard of the Cotto-Mosley fight, Joel Casamayor won a split-decision over Jose Armando Santa Cruz for the WBC Lightweight title and Golden Johnson lost a first round technical knockout to Antonio Margarito for the WBO Inter-Continental Welterweight title.
