WBC Heavyweight Interim Title Boxing Match: Samuel Peter vs. Jameel McCline
| When: |
Saturday, October 6, 2007 |
| Where: |
Madison Square Garden |
Despite being knocked down three times, Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter (29-1, 22 KOs) retained his WBC Heavyweight title with a unanimous decision over Jameel McCline (38-8-3, 23 KOs).
Peter, because of his punching power and unbeaten record, was predicted to knock McCline out early. McCline; however, knocked Peter down at the end of the second round and twice in the third round. Unfortunately, McCline was unable to capitalize on the advantage and Peter fought his way back into the match. The judges awarded the fight to Peter with scores of 113-112, 115-111 and 115-110.
In the undercard, Polish heavyweight contender Andrew Golota scored a sixth round TKO against Kevin McBride. The fight was a slugfest from the opening bell, and Golota doled out some pretty strong punches to earn a stoppage at 2:42 of the sixth round.
