Duddy v. Strickland

World Championship Boxing – Duddy v. Strickland

When: Friday, May 18, 2007
Where: Beacon Theatre

Unbeaten middleweight John Duddy (20-0, 15 KO’s) extended his winning streak to 20 after earning a 10-round unanimous decision over Dupree “Total Package” Strickland (18-2-1, 7 KO’s) at the Beacon Theater.

Duddy knocked Strickland down in the first round but Strickland recovered and landed a strong left hook to open a cut over Duddy's eye in the second round. Duddy's corner was able to stop the bleeding, but Strickland opened it again in the next round. Duddy prompted cheers from the crowd when he caught Strickland with a left hook in the fourth. Duddy had slightly greater success in the end of the seventh as he banged Strickland around on the ropes. The pace of the bout slowed over the final three rounds as both men seemed to acknowledge the inevitability of the fight going the distance.

In the under card, New York State middleweight title-holder Pawel "Raging Bull" Wolak TKO’d Anthony Little to remain undefeated at 15-0. Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin, arguably the brightest prospect from the Big Apple, continued to raise his stock with a second round technical knockout over Victor Paz. John Coyle, a decorated Irish amateur boxer, won his second professional fight with a first round knockout over the still winless Samuel (Ortiz) Gomez.
