Two world heavyweight titles and two former world heavyweight champions were featured in four bouts at Madison Square Garden on November 13th. In the night’s main event, John Ruiz (41-5-1) retained his World Boxing Association crown with a unanimous decision over Andrew Golota (38-5-1). Ruiz was fortunate to win considering he was knocked down twice in the third round and had a point taken away for hitting Golota behind the head. In the third fight, Chris Byrd (38-2-1) retained his International Boxing Federation heavyweight championship with a split decision over Jameel McCline (31-4-3). Byrd won despite being knocked down late in the second round. Former world champion Hasim Rahman (40-5-1) scored an impressive technical knockout over Kali Meehan (29-3). The fourth-round bell saved Meehan from going down, but as he staggered to his corner, his handlers signaled to the referee to stop the bout. In the night’s fourth fight, four-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (38-8-2) lost to Larry Donald (42-3-2) marking the 42-year-old Holyfield’s fifth defeat in his last eight fights.
