Undisputed Light Heavyweight World Champion Roy
Jones, Jr. Set defended his title against David Telesco on the
"World's Most Famous Stage"
One of the most famous stages in
the world will hosted the world of boxing when Radio
City Music Hall hosted the first-ever sporting event in it's
67-year history. Undisputed light heavyweight world-champion
Roy Jones, Jr. (40-1-0, 33 KOs), took
center stage when he defended his title against WBA number-two ranked
challenger David Telesco (23-2-0 19KOs).
The 34-year-old Jones, Jr. had successfully defended his title on three
separate occasions, most recently against Reggie Johnson on June 5 when he
unified the title with a unanimous decision. Telesco, 31, had won his
last twelve fights. In his last bout he was crowned USBA light heavyweight
champion when he took the title from Will Taylor on an eleventh-round
knockout.
Preceding the Jones-Telesco battle were heavyweights
David
Izon (24-3-0, 20 KOs) and Derrick Jefferson (22-0-1, 18 KOs) in the
featured undercard. Both 31 years in age, the two fighters are among the
most highly regarded prospects of their division. Izon, whose manager is
Roy Jones, Jr., most recently defeated Garing Lane in his August tune-up
for his Radio City fight. Jefferson's latest victory was suffered by
Maurice Harris via sixth-round TKO on September 19th.
