The top high school tennis players from New York City’s public, private, and parochial schools participated in the annual Mayor’s Cup Tennis Tournament. The Mayor’s Cup has become the second largest event to be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center--home of the US Open. The tournament featured both a team draw and an individual draw at both the varsity and middle school levels. Horace Mann High School captured the boys’ varsity team title, while St. Francis Prep won in the girls’ varsity title.
In the singles competition, top-seeded Milo Hauk (Beacon HS) took home the boys’ varsity title, defeating fifth-seeded Asika Isoh (Queens Gateway HS) in the championship match. The top seed also won the girls’ singles tournament as Shinann Featherston (St. Francis Prep) took down fourth-seeded Hannah Berner (Beacon HS) in the final to capture her fifth career individual Mayor’s Cup championship. Richard DelNunzio captured the boys’ middle school singles championship, while Becky Shtilkind won in the girls’ division. Bay Academy won the boys’ middle school team competition.
In the doubles competition, the team of Chenfeld/Segan (Hunter College HS) emerged victorious in boys’ varsity doubles, while Eng/Uy (St. Francis) won for the girls’ division. The pairing of Mo/Mo won the boys’ middle school doubles and Tsvetkov/Tsvetkov took home the title for the girls.
