What: Mayor’s Cup Youth Table Tennis Championships

Where:: IS 126 Public School - 80 Catherine Street (Manhattan)

The 2008 New York City Mayor’s Cup Youth Table Tennis Championships was an exciting tournament for New York City private and public school children sponsored by the American Youth Table Tennis Organization. The team champions were PS 64 (elementary), IS 211 (middle school), and Flushing H.S. (high school).

Wilson Zhong of PS 110M defeated John Lacy of PS 64M (11-8, 11-8, 11-8) to claim the elementary singles title. Annie Gao of Hunter College JHS defeated Jai Jai Min of PS 126 (11-3, 11-3, 11-5) to claim the middle school girls title. Bonson Wu of PS 188M defeated Brad Belle of IS 211K (6-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-7) to claim the middle school boys title. Orlando McEwan of Carnarsie H.S. defeated Emilie Goldstein of The Brown School (11-9, 11-7, 11-7) to claim the high school singles title.

The event winners and runner-ups received a 2008 New York City Table Tennis Championships trophy in their respective event category. The single elimination matches were officially sanctioned by USA Table Tennis, the national governing body of the sport of table tennis while the team tournament was an unsanctioned event.
