The FDNY defeated the NYPD by a score of 10-7 in the Inaugural Mayor’s Cup FDNY-NYPD Indoor Lacrosse Challenge at Madison Square Garden. The game preceded the New York Titans home opener against the San Jose Stealth. FDNY goalie Matt Murphy received the Ronald Kloepfer MVP plaque for his outstanding play.
The MVP award was created in honor of Ronald Kloepfer who in association with the Patrolman's Benevolent Association formed the NYPD lacrosse team in 1997. He passed away on September 11, 2001, but has left a lasting legacy with the NYPD lacrosse squad.
Immediately following the Mayor's Cup FDNY-NYPD Indoor Lacrosse Challenge, the Titans took on the San Jose Stealth in their 2008 season home opener. San Jose defeated the Titans 12-7.
