High school track & field athletes from New York City’s public, parochial, and independent schools competed in the Mayor’s Cup Indoor Track & Field Championship at the New Balance Track & Field Center. The meet featured many superb individual and team performances as an astounding six varsity meet records and one freshman record were broken at this year’s event. The Sheepshead Bay boys team and the Boys & Girls High School girls team took home the Mayor's Cup after accumulating the most points in their respective divisions after 16 events.
Of the seven meet records broken at this year’s meet, six were individual while one was a team record. Individual records were set by the following athletes: Darryl Bradshaw of Sheepshead Bay HS (55-meter hurdle, 7.69 sec), David Sandiford of Paul Robeson HS (high jump, 6’04.00”), Dominique Burrus of Jamaica HS (55-meter hurdle, 8.67 sec), Meagan Gillespie of Boys & Girls (300-meter, 39.79 sec), Nadonnia Rodriques of Boys & Girls HS (600-meter, 1:30.83), Victori Pontecorvo of Tottenville HS (1500-meter, 4:51:64). In addition, one freshman team record was set by Boys and Girls HS ‘A’ boys team (1600-sprint medley, 3:58.83).
The Mayor’s Cup Indoor Track & Field Championship was created through a partnership between the Armory Foundation, the New York City Sports Commission, and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.
