The Maggie Dixon Classic, a women’s basketball doubleheader created in honor of the late Army women’s basketball coach, will be held at Madison Square Garden. This year’s match-up features Rutgers facing Army in the first game and Connecticut taking on Penn State in the late game.

The Maggie Dixon Classic was created in 2006 to honor the late Maggie Dixon. Dixon coached the Army women’s basketball team to a 20-11 record and an appearance in the 2006 NCAA Tournament in her first year as head coach. It was the first time an Army basketball team had ever played in the postseason tournament. Maggie Dixon, 28, died just weeks after the season, suffering from an enlarged heart and a problem with a heart valve.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit C.A.R.E. - an organization that works to fund research and raise awareness of sudden cardiac death due to acquired heart disease and inherited rhythm disorders.
