2008 New York Liberty Draft Recap
The New York Liberty drafted Rutgers guard Essence Carson with the #7-overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft. Carson averaged 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in her senior season as she was named to the All-Big East second team. She was also a three-time winner of the Big East Defensive Player of the Year. The Liberty also added North Carolina forward Erlana Larkens with the #14-overall pick in the draft. Larkin averaged 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds and was named to the AP All-American Second Team.
In the second round, the Liberty added Duke guard Wanisha Smith and Tennessee guard Alberta Auguste. Smith leaves Duke as their fourth all-time career assists leader with 496, while Auguste helped Tennessee win back-to-back national championships in 2007 and 2008.
