Maccabi Games
Staten Island, New York: August 20-25, 2000
The Maccabi Youth Games are the most recent offspring
of a proud tradition of international Jewish
amateur athletic competitions that actually predate
modern Olympics.
The first international World Maccabi Games were
held in Palestine in 1932. The tradition of the Maccabi
Games was broken because of World War II, but the Games
found a permanent home in the State of Israel in 1950
and have been celebrated ever since.
New York City's Staten Island will be the only host city
in the Northeastern sector of the country. Over 1000
athletes from around the country and the world are
expected to participate.

Staten Island JCC Web Site to find out more information.
