The Jayo Invitational is a philanthropic beach volleyball event, combining the best U.S. Olympic volleyball players with celebrities and corporate sponsors to raise money and awareness for underprivileged children. The one-day invitational event includes a volleyball clinic—hosted by Olympians Eric Fonoimoana, Dain Blanton, and Kerri Walsh—for the children of benefit participants, local children’s programs, and the children of Eden II. The clinic, which runs from 9:00am to noon, will teach the fundamentals of volleyball using an entertaining and fun approach that children of all ages are sure to enjoy.
An autograph signing session and brunch will follow the clinic with the tournament commencing at 1:00pm. Spectators can watch the day-long festivities free of charge. Entry into the tournament is open to the public for a $50 donation, with each team consisting of at least one Olympian and one celebrity guest.
In its inaugural year, the Jayo Invitational will be raising money for the Foundation for the Advancement of Autistic People (FAAP) and Dig for Kids (DFK). FAAP raises funds to support Eden II. Eden II is a Staten Island based program that provides "people with autism specialized community based programs and other opportunities with the goal of enabling them to achieve the highest possible quality of living across their life spans". DFK is a program founded by Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Fonoimoana. DFK's mission is three fold:
1) To increase the number of children from lower-income communities who pursue and obtain higher education.
2) To increase the number of collegiate, professional and Olympic student athletes that come from lower-income communities
3) To increase the number of children who become an asset to their communities.
