More than 4,000 disabled and able-bodied athletes participated in the Hope and Possibility 5K Run/Walk. The race was divided into seven divisions that consisted of open, push-rim wheelchair, hand-crank, ambulatory disabled, visually impaired, above knee ambulatory and below knee ambulatory. More than $7,000 in prize money was awarded to the top male and female finishers for each category.

The post-race awards ceremony at the Disability Awareness Pavilion concluded the day with disability awareness activities that allowed able-bodied persons to experience a few minutes of jogging as a blind runner and/or test out a wheelchair or hand cycle.

The inspirational race celebrated the human spirit as embodied by Achilles Board Chair Trisha Meili, author of I Am The Central Park Jogger: A story of Hope and Possibility. Trisha along with members of Achilles International and many corporate teams participated in this year's event.

In addition, the Kids’ Fun Run was held for children ages 2-16. The first 1,500 children who registered and participated in the race received a free pair of running shoes courtesy of the Athletes Foot as well as a participation medal.

Achilles International is an organization dedicated to helping disabled people partake in athletic activity, particularly running and walking, by providing support and training programs. Achilles extends its aid to people with varying disabilities, such as visual impairment, paraplegia, amputation and others. Achilles was founded in 1983 in New York City and has expanded rapidly throughout the United States and other countries, including Norway, New Zealand, Russia and Japan.
