High schools from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia converged at the Armory for what has become the largest two-day indoor track & field event in the country. One of the weekend’s top performers was Brian Leung of West Windsor Plainsboro (NJ), who set a meet record in the Invitational 3200m run with a time of 9:22.92.
Other top performers included Shanae Bailey of Swenson Arts & Technology (PA), who set a meet record in the girl’s 200m run with a time of 24.44 seconds and the boy’s 4x800m relay team from Warwick Valley High School(NY), who set a meet record in the with a time of 7:59.27.
In addition to individual awards and accolades for athletes’ performances on the track, 15 “Leaders of Tomorrow” were selected, honoring outstanding Hispanic student athletes from the Tri-State area. This year’s recipients were Yajaira Rosa, Fatoumata Barry, Altagracia Vasquez, Cristhian Gonzalez, Heidy Palacios, Jennifer Villarosa, Christine Delgado, Valentina Codrington, Andres Botero, Nubriel Hernandez, Nelson Rosa, Andre Henriquez, Gregory Mercado, Andres Cabera, Gilbert Mate, Mark Medina, Carissa Davis, and Nicole Padilla.
The Hispanic Games are held each year as a way of reaching out to the Hispanic community and to provide a positive experience for youths.
