2007-08 GIANTS POSTSEASON

Giants WIN Super Bowl XLII!!
The New York Giants pulled off a shocking 17-14 upset of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII to bring home their first Super Bowl victory since 1990 and became the first NFC wildcard team to win a Super Bowl. Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning cemented his name in Giants history when he tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds remaining to give the Giants a 17-14 lead. Manning, who completed 19 of 34 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, showed great poise in leading his team down the field with less than three minutes to go. The winning drive was kept alive by an incredible escape by Manning followed by a spectacular and improbable catch by wide receiver David Tyree on third down. The Giants relied on an outstanding performance by their defense, who limited the Patriots to only 14 points, their lowest output of the season. Led by veteran Michael Strahan and outstanding defensive end Justin Tuck, the Giants defense sacked New England quarterback Tom Brady five times.
The Patriots, who were 18-0 and looking to complete the NFL’s second perfect season, fell short of perfection when Tom Brady’s final Hail Mary pass fell incomplete. Brady, the NFL 2007 MVP and winner of three previous super bowls, was 29 for 48 with 266 passing yards and one touchdown. It appeared that the Patriots may complete the undefeated season when Brady connected with wide receiver Randy Moss for a 6-yard touchdown pass that put the Patriots ahead 14-10 with 2:42 remaining in the game. The Giants responded with a dramatic drive down the field that put the Giants up 17-14. Brady had one last chance to lead the Patriots to victory after starting with the ball on New England’s 26 yard line with 26 seconds, but he was unable to complete a pass as the Giant’s pass rush continued to harass him as Brady’s last-ditch desperation pass on 4th down fluttered harmlessly to the ground with one second to go.

Giants Earn Berth into Super Bowl XLII!
The Giants extended their NFL-record road winning streak to ten games with a hard-fought, overtime victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game. Place kicker Lawrence Tynes became a hero by connecting on a 47-yard field goal in overtime to seal the 23-20 victory for the Giants. Tynes had missed two fourth quarter field goal attempts, including a crucial 36-yard attempt in the closing minutes of regulation. The Giants relied on an outstanding performance by wide receiver Plaxico Burress who had 11 catches for 154 yards and a solid running game by Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw who combined for 134 rushing yards. In addition, Eli Manning turned in another mistake-free game, completing 21 of 40 pass attempts for 254 yards. Defensively, the Giants harassed Brett Favre all game forcing two interceptions. The front line also shut down the once potent Packers running attack, limiting Ryan Grant to 29 yards on 13 carries.
The Giants will now prepare to take on the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. This is a rematch of the week 17 match-up in Giants Stadium where the Patriots won 38-35. Tom Brady and the Patriots will be trying to win their fourth Super Bowl in seven years. The Giants will attempt to upset the historic New England team and win their first Super Bowl since 1991. The Super Bowl will be played on February 3, 2008 in Glendale, Arizona beginning at 6:30pm.

Giants Advance to NFC Championship
The New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 at Texas Stadium, extending their 2007-08 road record to 9-1. Amani Toomer opened the scoring early in the first quarter, taking an Eli Manning pass 52-yards for a touchdown. The Cowboys scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take the lead, but the Giants rallied. Toomer scored his second touchdown of the day on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Manning with only 0:07 left in the half, knotting the score at 14. The Giants’ defense tightened up in the second half, allowing only a field goal midway through the third quarter. With the Giants trailing 17-14 in the fourth, Manning led a six-play drive that culminated with a go-ahead touchdown run by Brandon Jacobs with less than three minutes left in the game. RW McQuarters sealed the victory with an interception at the back of the end zone as time expired, ending the Cowboys chances at a late comeback.
The Giants will face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship on Sunday, January 20 at 6:30pm. The Packers have enjoyed a surprising 13-3 record this season, led by the ageless Brett Favre. Former Giants running back Ryan Grant has proven to be an indispensable cog in the Packer offense, rushing for 956 yard this season. Grant rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the NFC Divisional playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks.

Giants Defeat Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Wild Card Playoff
The New York Giants defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-14 in the NFC Wild Card Game, earning a spot in the NFC Divisional Playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, January 13 at 4:30pm. This was Head Coach Tom Coughlin’s first playoff win with the Giants and Quarterback Eli Manning’s first career playoff win. In addition, the Giants broke a four game playoff losing streak dating back to Super Bowl XXXV and it was their first playoff road victory since the 1990 NFC Championship Game in San Francisco.
After starting off slowly, the Giants ended the first quarter down 7-0. The Giants, however, turned it around and never looked back. They scored 24 unanswered points to take a commanding lead that proved to be too much for the Buccaneers to overcome. Manning had one of his best games of the season throwing no interceptions and posting one of his highest quarterback ratings (117.1) this year. He calmly completed 20 passes for 185 yards, leading the Giants to a win over the league’s second best defense. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw led the Giants’ run game with 66 yards on 17 carries and Brandon Jacobs chipped in as well with 34 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. On defense, veteran Michael Strahan had a career postseason high nine tackles (eight solo) and a sack while cornerback Corey Webster added an interception and a fumble recovery.
When the Giants play the Cowboys this Sunday it will be the third time the teams face each other this season. The first two times they played, Dallas won and the Giants now hope to end that streak. Since losing to Dallas in week 1, the Giants haven’t lost a road game. The Giants come into this game with a lot of momentum after their week 17 game against the Patriots and their recent playoff win against the Buccaneers, but the Cowboys are well rested as they’re coming off their bye week. Quarterback Tony Romo and wider receiver Terrell Owens, two of the 12 Cowboys selected to this year’s Pro Bowl, will look to lead their 13-3 NFC East Championship team to victory in the playoffs for the first time since 1996.
