Professional women's tennis returned to the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills as 16 of the top-ranked women in the world participated in the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Classic. #3-seed Gisela Dulko (Argentina) captured the title with a straight set win over top-seeded Virginie Razzano (France). Dulko easily defeated Razzano (6-2, 6-2) for her second title of the season, making her the seventh player this year to win multiple titles.
American Meilen Tu, the number-two seed, advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Nathalie Dechy in three sets. The five-day, 16-player tournament was the final tune-up before the US Open and took place at the West Side Tennis Club.
