The Foot Locker Cross Country Championships returned to Van Cortlandt Park for the Northeast Regional qualifier. Solomon Haile of Sherwood HS (MD) and Emily Jones of The Bromfield School (MA) prevailed in the boys’ and girls’ seeded races posting times of 15:21 and 17:31, respectively.
Solomon Haile broke out to an early lead and never looked back as he finished 15 seconds ahead of second place finisher Tyler Udland from Short Hills (NJ). Udland edged out Joe Whelan, who finished in third place with a time of 15:38.
In the girls’ race, Aisling Cuff, a sophomore at Cornwall Central HS (NY), led with less than one mile remaining. Jones, a three-time Footlocker Cross Country Championship finalist, surged to the lead and closed out the race. Shelby Greany of Suffern, NY, a four-time Footlocker Cross Country Championship, also passed Cuff to finish in second place with a time of 17:37. Cuff finished third, coming in at 17:39.
The top ten finishers in both the boys' and girls' races will travel to San Diego, California for the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships on December 13.
