The Brooklyn Cyclones

The Brooklyn Cyclones - 2007

2007 Brooklyn Cyclones Season Recap

The Brooklyn Cyclones rode their superb pitching all the way to the NYPL championship series, an accomplishment they have not achieved since 2003. Edgar Alfonso’s team maintained their division lead almost wire-to-wire and though the team lost in the championships to the Auburn Doubledays, the Cyclones had a season to remember.

The Cyclones had the league’s best record (49-25) thanks in part to a pitching staff that led the league in virtually every category, including ERA (2.91), shutouts (10) and hits (511). Staff ace Dylan Owen led the league with a 9-1 record and 1.49 ERA. Over 72 1/3 innings, he issued only 12 walks and fanned 69 batters. Dillon Gee was almost as impressive with a 2.47 ERA with 56 strikeouts and 9 walks.

Offensively, the Cyclones were consistent if not spectacular, supplying a steady dose of runs. Their batting average ranked fourth in the league with 1B/OF Lucas Duda leading the team with a .299 average and tied for third in the league with 20 doubles. C/1B Jason Jacobs anchored the lineup, topping the NYPL with 12 homers and leading the team with 46 RBIs while batting .273.

Brooklyn fans showed their support all season long, and the Cyclones led the league with an average attendance of 8,193. Though the team fell just short of winning the NYPL title, the Cyclones will bounce back next year with the same goal – their first championship title since 2001.
