Five time World Chess Olympiad gold medalist Susan Polgar faced off against some of the best male chess players in the world at the 2006 Mayor's Cup Invitational Chess Tournament. The event took place at the New York Athletic Club and featured many of the world’s top players including Gata Kamsky, Alex Onischuk, Boris Gulko, Alex Stripunsky, and Ildar Ibragimov.
Gata Kamsky, the #1-rated player in the U.S. by the USCF and FIDE, outlasted the talented lineup to take first place. Finishing 2nd was Susan Polgar who was the only woman in the field. Third place went to the reigning 2006 United States Champion, Alex Onischuk. Boris Gulko, Ildar Ibragimov and Alex Stripunsky finished in 4th, 5th and 6th place, respectively.
