GHI Bronx Tennis Classic
What: GHI Bronx Tennis Classic
When: August 9-17, 2008
Where: Crotona Park, Bronx

The GHI Bronx Tennis Classic, scheduled one week before qualifying for the US Open begins, served as a warm-up tournament for the USTA's main event. The tournament is one of only four professional tennis tournaments played in New York City and, along with the US Open, is one of only two professional tournaments played in the city that has both a men's and women's draw. Unseeded Lukas Dlouhy (CZE) routed Leonardo Mayer 6-0, 6-1 to capture the men’s championship, while unseeded Elena Bovina (RUS) took home the women’s title by defeating Anna-Lena Groenfeld (GER) 6-2, 7-5.

Proceeds of the tournament benefit the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL), founded by Arthur Ashe. The NYJTL operates community tennis centers throughout the five boroughs where children can take part in free tennis instruction, practice and competitive play.
