NYC Big Apple Grapple XXXI
What: NYC Big Apple Grapple XXXI
When: June 22, 2008
Where:: Jacob K. Javits Center / The Bar Show

The NYC Big Apple Grapple International returned to the Javits Center to crown the 2008 NYC King and Queen of Arms. The Big Apple Grapple, one of the premier arm wrestling tournaments of the year, welcomed athletes from all over the world. Travis Bagent of Charlestown, West Virginia was crowned 2008 King of Arms, while Josee Morneau from Winnipeg, Canada won the title of 2008 Queen of Arms.

Bagent put forth a dominant display of arm wrestling prowess, also winning the left-handed King of Arms and earning the title of “Arm Star.” Arm-Stars are participants who win both the right and left-handed divisions of the competitions they enter.

The tournament offered both pro and amateur competitions in both men’s and women’s divisions. In the amateur division, brothers Mike and Jason Hall of the Bronx both became Arm-Stars in the 175 and 200 pound weight classes, respectively.

The event also featured a team competition, where the teams competed in categories divided by borough, state and country. New York was well-represented here, as Queens came out on top in the pro division and the Bronx won at the amateur level.
