AVP Brooklyn Open

AVP Brooklyn Open
Date: July 18-20, 2008
Location: Coney Island, Brooklyn

The AVP Brooklyn Open featured 150 of the world’s top professional beach volleyball players. For many teams, the AVP Brooklyn Open held on Coney Island Beach served as the final tune-up before the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Both the men’s and women’s events played true to form, as favorites Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers and Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh defended their respective titles in impressive fashion.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, the #1-ranked team in the world, defeated Jennifer Boss and April Ross, 21-14, 21-15, in the championship game. The pair has now won 95 open championships, including a current streak of 17 tournaments in a row and a record 96 straight matches. In Beijing they will attempt to be the first women’s beach volleyball team to ever win two Olympic gold medals.

Returning champs Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers were victorious over the second-seeded team of Sean Scott and Nick Lucena Rogers in the championship game. Rogers and Dalhausser have 31 titles together. This year, they have won eight of nine AVP Tour events they have entered and they have won 45 of their 47 matches.
