Results from the 2003 Archery Championships
The 42nd World Archery Championships came to an exciting end the weekend of July 19th and 20th in Central Park. In the Men's Compound individual competition, Clint Freeman of Australia defeated the United States' own Dave Cousins 114-114 (29-28) in an incredibly close match-up. The Women's Compound individual competition was equally close with the United States' Mary Zorn defeating fellow American Amber L. Dawson 115-113.
For the individual Women's Recurve competition, South Korea's Yun Mi-jin captured the Gold, defeating fellow South Korean Park Sung-hyun 116-111. On the men's side, Italy's Michele Frangilli defeated Korea's Dong Hyun Im 113-12.
In team Recurve competition, Korea swept both the women's and men's competitions. The Korean women defeated Japan 252-233 while the men defeated Sweden 238-234.
In team Compound competition, the United States grabbed the Gold on the women's and the men's sides. Team USA's women defeated France 248-239 while Team USA's Men defeated Italy 263-256.

More than 500 archers from 70 countries competed in the qualification and elimination rounds in Van Cortlandt Park’s Parade Grounds in The Bronx from July 14-18. Additionally, as an Olympic qualifier, forty-six individuals and the top eight teams in these World Championships won positions for their countries in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
This marked the first time the Archery World Championships have been held in New York City and the first world championship of an Olympic sport held in the city since it won the right to be the U.S. bid city for the 2012 Olympic Games last November.
