America's Athletes With Disabilities
|
The mission is to promote and sponsor sports, recreation, fitness and leisure events for children and adults with physical disabilities. These events are held every year, across the country, under the banner of the Victory Games. The Victory Games provide children and adults with disabilities crucial and valuable experience in personal growth and achievement.
Founded in 1985, America’s Athletes with Disabilities (AAD) is a consortium of five member disabled sports organizations. The Board of Directors is made up of representatives of these member organizations. The mission is to raise and manage the funds necessary to support the Victory Games, athletic competitions held around the country that offer adults and youth with disabilities crucial and valuable experiences in personal growth and achievement.
When it comes to building the confidence and self esteem needed to do well in school, get a job, raise a family, and be a contributing member of society, competitive sports can be a powerful tool. Winning is important to everyone, but to an athlete with a disability, simply competing can be a victory in itself. Through the efforts of AAD and it’s member organizations, adults and children with disabilities are realizing their dreams and all the benefits that come with them.
