NYC2012 Run for the Olympic Bid |

Over 2000 runners showed their support for New York’s Bid for the 2012 Olympic Games in the NYRR’s NYC2012 Run for the Olympic Bid in Central Park. Waiving NYC2012 Olympic flags, runners cheered in support of the bid and showed their New York spirit by joining in the singing of “New York, New York” in the pre-race festivities. Runners were treated to a nighttime viewing of The Gates in the presence of Olympic greats including Grete Waitz, Bernard Lagat, and Eamonn Coughlin. Olympic steeplechaser Anthony Famiglietti won the 5K race in 14:20, while Michelle Bleakley led the women with a time of 17:55.
