The 2003 NY Power Soccer Schedule

The New York Power is one of eight teams in the WUSA, The Women's United Soccer Association, the World's Premier professional women's soccer league.

The New York Power play at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, Nassau County on Long Island. The season is comprised of 21 games that begin on April 5, 2003. The season concludes with the league championship game in late August.

THE 2003 POWER DRAFT

New York Power coach Tom Sermanni picked up three talented players in Sunday’s 2003 WUSA Draft. As predicted, the Power used their second-overall pick to acquire Long Island native Christie Welsh. Recognized as the best forward in the draft, this four-year All-American from Penn State will be paired with Tiffeny Milbrett up front, creating an intimidating offensive duo. With her 5-10 frame, Welsh will add needed strength to the Power offense.

The Power also acquired University of Portland defender Lauren Orlandos as the ninth-overall pick. Orlando is a versatile defender accredited with leading a Portland defense to 17 shutouts last season. In the fourth round, the Power secured Clemson University forward Heather Beem.
