Horace Barker is a Vice President and Assistant Manager of Smith Barney’s branch office at 345 Park Ave. He started his business career in New York City in advertising and brand management with Dancer, Fitzgerald, Sample Advertising, a predecessor of Saatchi & Saatchi. He entered the investment industry in 1987 as a Financial Advisor with Kidder, Peabody & Co., and has been with Smith Barney for twelve years. He has spent the last seven years working in branch management, and also as a National Training Officer.
As Assistant Manager of Smith Barney’s 345 Park Ave. branch office, Horace has responsibility for business planning, and recruiting, as well as supervising and coaching the office’s 75 Financial Advisors who provide investment and wealth management services for high net worth individuals. The revenues of the office exceed $50 million and assets are over $7 billion.
Before arriving at the 345 Park Ave. branch, Horace was the Branch Manager in Smith Barney’s Rego Park, Queens office, with additional management responsibility for a satellite office in Flushing. The Rego Park and Flushing offices had a combined total of 28 Financial Advisors, with a total of $7.5 million in revenue and $1.25 billion in assets. While managing in Queens, Horace was a member of the Long Island City Chamber of Commerce, and an active supporter of the Queens Library Foundation.
As a young person, growing up in Southern California, Horace developed a love of the outdoors, and today enjoys skiing, golf and fishing. Horace is formerly an Executive Board Member of the Harlem Sno-Burners, a member chapter of the National Brotherhood of Skiers, and is the trip leader for the Sno-Burners upcoming trip to Courchevel, France, in March of 2008. One of his favorite past-times is playing on NY City’s golf courses where he has made many friends and acquaintances. Horace is a resident of the Upper West Side and enjoys reading and home improvement projects. He is married to Christine Govan, and has a stepdaughter who is a sophomore at UMASS-Amherst.
Horace holds a B.A. degree in History and Political Science from La Sierra University in Riverside, CA, and a Masters in International Relations from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA.
