FastTrac® NewVenture™

Make your business idea a reality!
If you are an entrepreneur with a business idea and want to make it a reality, FastTrac NewVenture is for you. Our free program, offered in partnership with New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, and Workforce1 Career Centers, provides entrepreneurs the necessary tools to refine your business idea, such as: 

  • Identifying market and aligning your business to meet those needs
  • Setting financial goals
  • identifying unique features and benefits of products/services
  • Company branding
  • Completing major components of a business plan

With the guidance of successful entrepreneurs, experienced facilitators, and a supportive peer community, FastTrac® NewVenture™ will help you refine your business concept, identify the components of a strong business plan, and access the appropriate resources to complete your launch. The benefits of FastTrac® NewVenture™ will last you long after the program has ended and into your role as a start-up business owner.

Total course hours: 10 sessions, 40 hours

You are eligible for FastTrac® NewVenture™ if you meet the following criteria:

  • Have a well thought-out idea for a new business or recently launched business
  • Have access to a computer to complete assignments
  • Have conducted initial market research for your planned business
  • Are committed to attending all sessions (approximately 40 classroom hours) and complete prep work

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Given the volume of applications and limited number of seats, applicants are encouraged to apply early. This is a competitive program, so please be sure to submit a thoughtful and complete application.

FastTrac® GrowthVenture™

Take your business to the next level!
If you're looking to grow your existing business, FastTrac GrowthVenture is the program for you. It provides the tools necessary to build a long-term plan to create a sustainable business and future growth by:

  • Creating an actionable plan for strategic growth
  • Analyzing your business and evaluating the market for growth
  • Finding ways to strengthen products/services
  • Optimizing the roles and responsibilities of management
  • Improving profits and financial performance while you grow

In this free program offered in partnership with New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, and Workforce1 Career Centers, you’ll create an actionable plan for strategic growth, receive one-on-one assistance from experienced entrepreneurs, and join a learning community of peer entrepreneurs. 

Total course hours: 8 sessions, 32 hours

You are eligible for FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ if:

  • Your business has been in operation for one or more years 
  • Your business has achieved sales targets and demonstrated market potential
  • You can provide a well thought-out argument for how FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ will benefit your company
  • You have access to a computer to complete assignments
  • You are committed to attend all sessions (approximately 30 classroom hours) and complete prep
    work

Can more than one person from the same business apply to FastTrac® GrowthVenture™? Given the volume of applications and limited number of seats, only one person per business can apply and be accepted to FastTrac® GrowthVenture™. If there is more than one business owner/partner, only one person should apply.

FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ for Established Neighborhood Businesses

Learn to stay on top of the changing economy!
Is a program specifically designed for long-standing small business entrepreneurs competing in changing neighborhoods and commercial districts. Owners of long-standing small businesses face a unique set of challenges that can have a tremendous impact on the growth of their business venture. This program provides tools and resources to maintain a sustainable business legacy for the neighborhood business entrepreneur and the community they serve through targeted topics:

  • Driving sales
  • Building your team
  • Reexamining the market
  • Commercial lease education and negotiation
  • Create an actionable plan for strategic growth

In this free program you’ll create an actionable plan for strategic growth, receive guidance of an accomplished entrepreneur, business expert and experienced coach, and join a learning community of peer entrepreneurs.

Total course hours: 10 sessions, 30 hours

You are eligible for FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ for Established Neighborhood Businesses if:

  • Your business has been in operation for ten or more years
  • Your business has achieved sales targets and demonstrated market potential
  • You can provide a well thought-out argument for how FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ for the Established Neighborhood Business will benefit your company
  • You have access to a computer to complete assignments
  • You are committed to attend all sessions (approximately 30 classroom hours) and complete prep
    work

Can more than one person from the same business apply to FastTrac® GrowthVenture™? FastTrac® NewVenture™ Veterans Entrepreneurship Program

Take the first step toward becoming a successful veteran entrepreneur! 
Our free program for Veterans provides the tools necessary to evaluate skills developed in the military and apply them to a business concept in order to launch a sustainable business. Our FastTrac® NewVenture™ Veterans Entrepreneurship Program, can put you on the path to success by helping you:

  • Complete the major components of a business plan
  • Develop a product/service
  • Conduct market research
  • Identify government contracting opportunities

Total course hours: 10 sessions, 40 hours

You are eligible if you meet the following criteria:

  • Have served at least one day in the U.S military including the Reserves and National Guard
  • Have a well thought-out idea for a new business
  • Have at least two years of work experience
  • Have access to a computer to complete assignments
  • Have conducted initial market research for your business idea
  • Are committed to attending all sessions (approximately 40 classroom hours) and complete prep work

FastTrac® NewVenture™ for the Female Entrepreneur

Learn how to launch your business with other female entrepreneurs!
Our free program for female entrepreneurs will take you through the requirements of making your business idea a reality, with focused attention on overcoming the challenges specific to female entrepreneurs and the resources available for women-owned businesses.

With the guidance of successful entrepreneurs, business experts, and experienced coaches, FastTrac® NewVenture™ for the Female Entrepreneur will help you refine your business concept, identify the components of a strong business plan, and access the appropriate resources to complete your launch. With an additional focus on networking, negotiating, and certification, this course will provide the tools to help you launch your business and a network of supportive female entrepreneurs.

Total course hours: 10 sessions, 40 hours

You are eligible for FastTrac® NewVenture™ for the Female Entrepreneur if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are a female prospective entrepreneur with a well thought idea for a new business
  • Have at least two years of work experience
  • Have access to a computer to complete assignments
  • Have conducted initial market research for your business idea
  • Are committed to attending all sessions (approximately 40 classroom hours) and complete prep work

Make your big tech idea a reality!
With the guidance of successful entrepreneurs, experienced coaches, and a supportive peer community, FastTrac® TechVenture™ will not only help you refine your business concept, identify the components of a strong business plan, and access the appropriate resources to complete your launch, it will help you tackle the specific challenges of a tech-based business like protecting your intellectual property and where to find funding. This program is designed to provide technology entrepreneurs with a proven framework and a network of connections to help grow your big idea into the next great innovation. The benefits of FastTrac® TechVenture™ will last you long after the workshop has ended and into your role as a start-up business owner.

Total course hours: 10 sessions, 40 hours

You are eligible for FastTrac® TechVenture™ if you meet the following criteria:

  • Have a well thought-out tech-based idea for a new business
  • Have at least two years of work experience, and preferably experience working on a tech project or project team
  • Have technical skills related to your tech concept
  • Have access to a computer to complete assignments,
  • Have conducted initial market research on your business idea
  • Are commitment to attending all sessions (approximately 40 classroom hours)

Given the limited number of seats, applicants are encouraged to apply early. This is a competitive program, so please be sure to submit a thoughtful and complete application.

Strategic Steps for Growth Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Program
A Premier executive education program for minority and women business owners who want to grow their business.

Since 2010, SS4G has helped almost 100 minority and woman business owners develop a plan for growth. Participants gain knowledge and experience through:

  • Thirteen evening class sessions taught by an NYU professor
  • An award-winning curriculum
  • Peer-mentoring sessions
  • Advice from business leaders and experts
  • Connecting with City and NYU procurement professionals
  • Access to a supportive alumni network
Throughout the course, each business owner will develop a customized three-year Strategic Growth Action Plan™ - a detailed roadmap for growing their business.

Total course hours: 13 evening sessions, 40 hours, plus assignments and peer-mentoring meetings

Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must have an ownership stake in their business. To be eligible to apply for the Minority- and Woman-owned Enterprise (M/WBE) Program, a business must fit the following criteria:

  • Must be certified by New York City as a Minority or Woman-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) OR submit your application to become M/WBE-certified by the start of the course;
  • Must have been operating for at least three years, with revenues of between $500,000 and $10 million during the most recent year (exceptions to this requirement will be reviewed); and
  • Must have at least one full-time employee (not including the business owner).

Valued at $10,000, this program is presented by the NYC Department of Small Business Services in collaboration with the NYU Stern School of Business’ W.R. Berkley Innovation Lab, the NYU Division of Operations, and Citi Community Development. There is a $1,000 tuition fee for the program.

When does the next class start? Classes are schedule to begin in October 2016 and end in Spring 2017.

Since 2012, SS4G has provided almost 60 NYC-based media, entertainment, and technology companies develop a plan for growth. Participants gain knowledge and experience through:

  • Must have at least one full-time employee (not including the business owner); and
  • Must be headquartered or have a main office within the five boroughs of New York City, or have a significant tie to the City’s business community.

Valued at $10,000, this program is presented by the NYC Department of Small Business Services in collaboration with the City of New York Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and the NYU Stern School of Business' W.R. Berkley Innovation Lab. There is a $1,000 tuition fee for the program.

Strategic Steps for Growth Independent Physicians Program
A premier business education program designed for independent physicians of individual or group practices.

This eight-month, cohort-based course will be held bi-weekly at NYU's School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS), and will be taught by Kevin Harrington, a published healthcare industry expert, practitioner, and business owner. Throughout the course, each business owner will develop a customized three-year Strategic Growth Action Plan™ - a detailed roadmap for growing their business. Participants will also gain knowledge and experience through:

  • Award-winning curriculum from Interise
  • Networking with healthcare industry experts
  • Small, interactive classes instructed by an NYUSPS professor
  • Peer-mentoring sessions

Our specially-designed curricula will help independent physicians learn to navigate and thrive in the current marketplace through practical modules on topics including, but not limited to:
  • Business & Strategic Assessment: Setting the Stage for Growth
  • Finances: Balancing Cash Flow & Bottom Line
  • Marketing and Sales
  • Resources: Getting What You Need to Grow
  • Revenue Cycle Management
  • Reimbursements, payment systems, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Health information technology management
  • Government incentive programs

Total course hours: 13 evening sessions, 40 hours, plus assignments and peer-mentoring meetings

Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must have an ownership stake in their practice. To be eligible to apply for the Independent Physicians program, a practice must fit the following criteria:

  • All applicants must be an owner or co-owner of independent individual or group practice;
  • The practice must have 1+ years of operation in NY; and
  • The practice must have 1+ full-time employees (not including the owner)

The program is presented by the NYC Department of Small Business Services, with instruction and supplemental content by the NYU School of Professional Studies and support through JPMorgan Chase & Co. The program is offered tuition-free.

When does the next class start? Classes are scheduled to begin September 2016 and end in spring 2017.

CAP/NYCEO M/WBE Mentorship Program

Professional Services, Standard Services, and Goods M/WBEs in the NYC area, come learn from the very best in the private sector!

In order to help M/WBE-certified businesses grow, SBS is partnering with Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) and our thirteen corporate partners in the Corporate Alliance Program (CAP)Professional Services firms (such as advertising/marketing, accounting and legal), Standard Services firms (such as janitorial/building maintenance, catering and security services) and Goods firms (such as IT equipment/parts, office supplies, and energy-saving light bulbs) are invited to apply to this competitive program.  Applications are being accepted now!

Selected participants will:

  • Be assigned to a mentorship group with one to three other selected firms and a mentor who is an experienced and successful entrepreneur and member of Entrepreneurs' Organization's NY Chapter
  • Over 28 weeks participants will meet with their mentorship group and mentor to work on business and leadership goals
  • Attend learning seminars on relevant business topics presented by executives from the CAP corporate partner organizations, including a corporate procurement-focused workshop
  • Be advised by an executive from a CAP corporate partner on a specific business challenge, as applicable
  • In order to be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Is the owner of a Professional Services, Standard Services or Goods firm that is NYC-certified as a Minority- and/or Woman-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) or is eligible to apply for certification
    • Has been in operation for at least three years
    • Has a record of continual growth for the past two years
    • Ideally, has at least two employees (including owner)
    • Has annual revenues between $150,000 and $800,000
    • Has a business plan, company profile, growth plan or capabilities statement
