Government procurement is simply the means by which all levels of government purchase goods and services.  New York City alone has a procurement budget in excess of $9 billion.  Below are some of the resources available to help vendors gain the tools and expertise necessary to identify and successfully bid on government contracting opportunities.

    U.S. Small Business Administration works with small businesses that have been in business for at least two years and have a product or service that they can sell to the federal 8a Program. SBA’s SDB and HUBZone Programs do not have a two-year time frame. The SBA’s procurement programs can assist firms in expanding their annual sales. The federal government purchases more than $200 billion in goods and services on an annual basis.

  • US Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)

    For minority firms, MBDA provides access to markets, financing and capital.  They also have continuing programs in education and training in both business and management; and procurement.  There are three (3) New York City Centers.

    Classroom training for new and experienced vendors are conducted the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am promptly.  The course outline covers most basic government contracting issues and answers.  Students are guided through the process of searching for current bids, RFPs, and other contracting opportunities at a series of different types of agencies.  Seating is limited so call to register.

    SCA was established by the New York State Legislature in December 1988 to build new public schools and manage the design, construction and renovation of capital projects in New York City's more than 1,200 public school buildings, half of which were constructed prior to 1949.

    Training Types: Mentoring program to increase, facilitate and encourage the participation of Minority, Women-owned and locally-based enterprises by providing a flexible framework for eligible firms to develop and grow within the construction industry; which will foster the establishment of stable, long term business relationships.

    The New York Chapter of Women in International Trade is one of many across the country that make up the National Organization of Women in International Trade. Their members are women (and some men) who have an interest or background in international trade and transportation. The occupations of their membership range from importers and exporters to freight forwarders and customs brokers, steamship line employees, customs attorneys and other specialists.

    Their goal is to assist members in becoming knowledgeable on a broad variety of international trade topics and to address issues which are uniquely of interest to women practicing in the various international trade fields or which uniquely affect women.

    The Regional Alliance for Small Contractors ("RASC") is a leading resource for small, minority- and women-owned construction firms in the New York tri-state area. Founded in 1990 by major private sector construction corporations and public sector agencies, RASC develops and manages S/M/W/DBE businesses development and technical assistance programs that private and public sector organizations are unable to undertake on their own.  RASC operates multifaceted programs, which enables S/M/W/DBE contractors to realize success and growth in construction and related industries.
