Hurricane Sandy Business Loan and Grant Program - Now Closed
The Hurricane Sandy Business Loan and Grant Program is closed and no longer accepting new applicants. Since launching in 2013, the program has awarded more than $50 million to small businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The Hurricane Sandy Business Loan and Grant Program finished processing all applicants as of November 1, 2015.
Applicants who wish to appeal their decision must have indicated in writing their intent to appeal within 30 days of receiving their decision letter and submit all required documentation by January 29, 2016. If a business is waiting on items from a city or federal agency, the business will have until February 26, 2016 to submit documents.
Awardees awaiting disbursement of funds will be contacted by program staff, and awardees must submit required documents by January 29, 2016 or as directed by the awardees’ disbursement manager. Failure to submit the required documents will result in forfeiting the remaining undisbursed awards.
The City of New York and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are providing small businesses impacted by Hurricane Sandy grants and loans through the allocation of Community Development Block Grant, Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. The NYC Department of Small Business Services administered the program with assistance from the New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC).
Eligible businesses qualified for up to $100,000 in grants, and up to $1.1 million in matching grants and loans depending on the business’s unmet need. Certain businesses qualifying for Severe Need or Significant Severe Need, per the program’s policies and procedures, were eligible for grant only funding for the business’s total unmet need in excess of $1.1 million.
