Hurricane Sandy Business Loan and Grant Program - Now Closed
The deadline for small businesses to express interest in applying for the Hurricane Sandy Business Loan and Grant Program (HSBLGP) was January 31, 2015. The deadline for applicants to submit all required documents was April 30, 2015. HSBLGP is no longer accepting new applicants or documents that were not submitted by the program deadline.
Small businesses that submitted the required documents before the program deadline are evaluated on a first come, first served basis until funding is exhausted. Businesses are eligible if
- The business existed prior to the storm and is located in New York City;
- They experienced direct damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy;
- They have a need for inventory, equipment or working capital that has not been replaced or met by additional sources of funding (SBA loan, insurance, disaster recovery grants, etc.); and,
- They remain responsive to program staff’s request for more information.
Eligible businesses can qualify for up to $100,000 in grants, and up to $1.1 million in matching grants and loans depending on unmet need. Certain businesses may qualify for up to $1.1 million in grant only funding.
The City of New York and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are providing small businesses in New York City with disaster recovery loans as part of the $48 million allocated for a business recovery loan and grant program through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program. The NYC Department of Small Business Services will be administering the program with assistance from the New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC).
