New York â€“ The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) is accepting applications for the Fiscal Year 2013 Avenue NYC program. Avenue NYC is a competitive grant program that provides funding for non-profit economic development organizations to carry out commercial revitalization activities in the districts they serve. Avenue NYC also offers a number of capacity building initiatives to support the efforts of organizations throughout the City.
"Through innovative public-private partnerships like Avenue NYC we help New York City's retail districts remain vibrant places in which to live, work, and do business," said SBS Commissioner Robert W. Walsh. "I encourage local economic development organizations to apply for the program."
Each year, SBS partners with local organizations in neighborhoods throughout the City to implement programs that markedly improve conditions in these districts. In fiscal year 2011, Avenue NYC-funded organizations attracted 99 new businesses to their corridors, created 4 new merchants associations and revitalized another 12, and improved 22 storefront facades.
This year, non-profit economic development organizations can apply for funding in one or more of Avenue NYC's six project categories: Business Attraction, FaÃ§ade Improvement Management, Merchant Organizing, Multi-Neighborhood Initiatives, Placemaking, and Website Development. There is $1.6 million in funding available for the 2013 fiscal year.
Organizations that are interested in applying for the Fiscal Year 2013 Avenue NYC program are welcome to attend one of the following information sessions to be held at the offices of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, located on the fourth floor of 110 William Street in Lower Manhattan.
- Wednesday March 14th 2012, 2:00pm â€“ 4:00pm
- Thursday March 22nd 2012, 3:00pm â€“ 5:00pm
- Tuesday March 27th 2012, 10:00am â€“ 12:00pm
During these sessions, SBS staff will provide a comprehensive overview of the Fiscal Year 2013 Avenue NYC program and the application process. Please RSVP by emailing email@example.com.
