New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Commissioner Robert W. Walsh today announced the availability of $1,000,000 in NYC Business Solutions Training Grants for the current round of funding. The NYC Business Solutions Training Grant supports local employers and their employees by funding customized training programs that advance workers’ skills and increase their wages. Awardees are selected based on their ability to create and retain jobs, provide entry-level and incumbent workers with career advancement opportunities, and increase wages in key growth and priority sectors. Applications for the current round of funding are due on August 16 at 5:00 p.m. Two training sessions for the application are scheduled on July 12 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Employers that are unable to attend those sessions can get technical assistance by posting questions to the www.nyc.gov/training website or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“The Bloomberg administration has led the way for making New York City business friendly, and these grants are another great resource for the city’s businesses and workers,” said Commissioner Walsh. “In order to stay competitive, businesses need highly-trained employees with a flexible skill set. These training grants provide employers with this competitive edge, while giving New Yorkers the skills to be successful in their careers.”
Launched in October 2005, the NYC Business Solutions Training has awarded 15 grants through four rounds of funding totaling $1,506,598 to train 1,160 New Yorkers. Employers are matching these grants with $1,780,643 of their own funds. Applications for the training grants are available at www.nyc.gov/training.
