In partnership with CapitalOne Bank, Mastercard, Pratt Area Community Council and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, the Beach 116th Street Partnership and SBS hosted a “Rolling Up the Gates” event to showcase available properties along Beach 116th Street. According to studies by consulting firm The JGSC Group, the Rockaway peninsula alone is home to more than 55,000 consumers with an average household income of $68,700. Of those consumers, 87% are seeking more local restaurants and stores. Over 30 potential business owners attended the event and toured 15 vacancies along the commercial corridor.
It is clear that the Rockaways and Beach 116th street are ripe for new businesses, and we are confident that “Rolling Up the Gates” has demonstrated that potential, and the demand. We look forward to fulfilling Beach 116th street’s potential, and continuing to strengthen the business mix in the heart of the Rockaways.
