2001

SCP Summer Associate, Susannah Brouwer, met with
Leon H. Charney, Chairman of the Jerusalem Exploratory Committee, to dicuss possible projects for the
Jerusalem - New York City Sister City Partnership.

Mayor Ehud Olmert of Jerusalem visited New York City. During Mayor Olmert's time in New York, Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani held a press conference at City Hall where he delivered a Statement of Principles on the Future Status of Jerusalem, expressing his support for a peaceful state of Israel.

2000

Leon Charney, Chairman of the Jerusalem Exploratory Committee, accompanied by Melissa Draper, Associate Director of the Sister City Program of the City of New York, met with Mayor Olmert in Jerusalem to reaffirm the New York-Jerusalem partnership. The Sister City representatives presented Mayor Olmert with a joint Proclamation, already signed by Mayor Giuliani,
reaffirming five years of official friendship and cooperation
between New York City and Jerusalem.

Theresa E. Behrendt, President of the Sister City Program of the City of New York met with Ambassador Sisso, Consul General of Israel to New York. The two leaders discussed the future of the Jerusalem-New York partnership.

1998

The Sister City Program of the City of New York was represented in Israel for the official 50th Anniversary Celebration of Israel's Independence.

1996

Mayor Giuliani, during his visit to Israel, paid a visit to Jerusalem as a show of solidarity between the New York City and Jerusalem in the wake of a series of terrorist bombings; Mayor Giuliani met with Mayor Olmert, Prime Minister Shimon Peres, and President Ezer Weizman as well as visiting high schools of the bereaved families affected by the bombings.

1995

In honor of the 3000th Anniversary of King David's Establishment of Jerusalem as the Capital of Ancient Israel, Mayor Giuliani and Mayor Olmert signed a joint agreement to formally continue the relationship of common purpose and mutual benefit between the two cities.

1993

New York Mayor David Dinkins and Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollack sign a "mutual cooperation agreement" to officially join the two cities in a proclamation of friendship.
