Moving Forward with Courage
By Mayor Rudy Giuliani
This past Sunday, the United States took action against the terrorists
who supported the attacks of September 11th. I know that I speak for
all New Yorkers when I say our thoughts and prayers are with the brave
men and women of our military. Their objective is clear, their cause
is just, and we are grateful for the strong leadership of our President,
George W. Bush.
The soldiers, sailors, and pilots who are on this mission have the
same courage that made our firefighters, police officers, and emergency
workers so effective in saving more than 25,000 lives on September
11th.
Inspired by their examples of bravery, we need to move forward -
in defiance of terror - to show the world that a free, inclusive,
and civil society will triumph over all forms of tyranny.
We cannot let our way of life be compromised by acts of terrorism.
I encourage you to take advantage of all the things that make our
City the Capital of the World. New York's restaurants, theaters, stores,
and museums are all open for business, and there's never been a better
time to participate in the cultural and economic life of our City.
And if you are traveling, take a plane with the confidence that our
skies are safe.
If you have friends or family who were planning on coming to New
York City in the near future, tell them to come now. Not only will
they have a great time at our world-renowned restaurants, shops, museums,
ballparks, and theaters, but they will be making an important statement
that terrorists cannot stop us from being the land of the free and
the home of the brave.
There is another way you can help the recovery effort - make a donation
to the Twin Towers Fund. The Twin Towers Fund has been established
by the City of New York to ensure that the widows and children of
our brave fallen New York City Firefighters, New York City Police
Officers, Port Authority Police Officers, and emergency workers always
have the support of the grateful people of our City. If sufficient
money is generated for the Fund, it will expand to cover the families
of civilian victims as well.
