Hello and Welcome to the Community Board 9 website. My name is Mary Ann Carey and I am the District Manager of Board 9. My staff and I are here to assist you in navigating the complicated and complex City of New York information process. The primary function of the District Office is to deliver City Services to you, our constituents. First you need to know where we are, Queens Borough Hall 120-55 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens, Room 310-A, Second when we are open; from 9 am to 5 pm. Monday through Friday and how you contact us; 718-286-2686. You will have an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the staff by going to the Home Page and accessing Staff.
You live in a very active and involved district comprised of four communities; Woodhaven, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill and Kew Gardens (WORK). Within each area are community, fraternity and religious organizations that you can also access from the Home Page, many with websites of their own. Community Board 9 is unique in that we bring our monthly Board meetings to each of our four communities. This information is also posted on our new website with the dates, times and sites of each meeting.
This Board has been active and successful in bringing dozens of projects to fruition. Working together with our elected officials, City Agencies, the District Office and the Board has completed numerous projects; the Reconstruction of Kew Gardens Road, 101st Avenue, 103rd Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, portions of Jamaica Avenue, the resurfacing of numerous streets and the filling of thousands of potholes. Through The Forest Park Administrators Office we have seen some of our greatest successes. During the 1970's and early1980's it seemed that Forest Park was abandoned by the community and the City. Only our Queens Borough President, Community Board 9, Councilmen Walter Ward and Arthur Katzman were interested in bringing our Forest Park back to life. Forest Parks consists of 543 acres, 411 wooded. Forest Park is home to Victory Field, Jackson Pond, Buddy Monument , Schaffer Memorial, Sobelsohn Playground, Wallenberg Square, Giovannelli Playground, Mary Whalen Playground, Tennis Courts, Greenhouse Playground, Queens Greenhouse and Technical Shop, Oakridge, the Model Airplane Field, the Seuffert Bandshell and the Forest Park Carousel. During the summer there are varied concerts, dances, children's shows, etc. at the Bandshell. We have a "Jewel" in Forest Park 95% free of charge and yours for the taking. In our next edition I will go into more detail about our exquisite carousel. See you then.
