New York City is hosting the annual Poem in Your Pocket Day celebration on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in honor of National Poetry Month. To join in the excitement, write your own poem or borrow one from your favorite poet; just make sure to carry a poem in your pocket to share with your friends, family, classmates, and colleagues.
All month long, organizations will present poetry-inspired events throughout the five boroughs. Follow the #PocketPoem and #NPM18 on social media to see what’s happening for National Poetry Month and Poem in Your Pocket Day. You can also enter the #PoetweetNYC Twitter poetry contest! Tweet a poem using #PoetweetNYC from April 16-20, 2018.
Poets House Located in Battery Park City in Manhattan, Poets House seeks to document the wealth and diversity of modern poetry, hosting programming for all ages, both on Poem in Your Pocket Day and throughout the year. Its 60,000 volume poetry library is a great place to find and copy your pocket poem.
Poetry Society of America The Poetry Society of America, the nation's oldest poetry organization, was founded in 1910. Its mission is to build a larger and more diverse audience for poetry, to encourage a deeper appreciation of the vitality and breadth of poetry in the cultural conversation, to support poets through an array of programs and awards, and to place poetry at the crossroads of American life. The PSA's Poetry in Motion program, placing poems in transit systems in New York and around the country, is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
