Public Outreach Meeting of the Interagency BMP Task Force

On April 22, 2007 Mayor Bloomberg unveiled PlaNYC, a detailed roadmap for how to overcome the enormous challenges we will face as our population grows, our infrastructure ages, and our environment continues to be at risk between now and 2030. The sixth initiative under PlaNYC’s Water Quality goal calls for the formation of an Interagency Best Management Practices (BMP) Task Force. Formed in May 2007, the Task Force brings together all relevant City agencies to analyze ways to incorporate source control stormwater management techniques, known as BMPs, into the design and construction of both public and private projects to reduce CSO volume. The Task Force is required to produce a plan to integrate the most successful BMPs on a city-wide scale by October 2008.

PLEASE JOIN US for the third public outreach meeting of the Interagency Best Management Practices (BMP) Task Force on Monday, February 4th from 6-8 PM at NYU’s Kimmel Center for Student Life. This meeting will focus on BMP design opportunities and challenges in several areas of implementation. We want to leverage the expertise and experience of the water quality professionals, advocates, stakeholders, design and development practitioners, and so on. Two brainstorming sessions will be organized around ten tables, each with a different focus:

  1. Low-density (encompasses BMP designs for new and existing low-density residential and commercial sites and structures)
  2. Medium-density (encompasses BMP designs for new and existing medium-density residential and commercial sites and structures)
  3. High-density (encompasses BMP designs for new and existing high-density residential and commercial sites and structures)
  4. Big-box/Industrial (encompasses BMP designs for new and existing industrial and commercial structures)
  5. Streets (encompasses BMP designs for the street)
  6. Sidewalks (encompasses BMP designs for the sidewalk)
  7. Plazas (encompasses BMP designs for confined and heavily programmed public space)
  8. Parks (brainstorm what BMPs are possible for small neighborhood and large destination parks)
  9. Playgrounds and Recreation (encompasses BMP designs for fields, courts, and play areas)
  10. Waterfront (encompasses BMP designs for waterfront development)

Participants must RSVP in order to be placed at a table for each of the two brainstorming sessions. Use the drop down menus below to tell us your top three choices. We will try our best to accommodate your preference but space is limited. Tables will be filled in the order that we receive your RSVP and with a mind to creating a diverse set of backgrounds for fruitful discussion.
