Infrastructure

Maintaining and renewing the machinery that makes the City go - buildings, roads, and water supply.

Infrastructure services focus on the safety and adequacy of the physical framework that provide New Yorkers with basic needs such as housing and other structures, transportation, and water.

Infrastructure agencies plan, contract for and oversee the City's program of new construction and maintenance; administer laws and regulations related to buildings and private construction; work to safeguard the City's water supply; ensure accessibility of sidewalks, streets and roads; engineer improvements to enhance mobility, including increased use of alternative transportation modes; and coordinate preservation and construction programs to improve the availability, affordability and quality of housing in New York City.
