Education includes administration of the City's public schools, including the educational curriculum as well as physical management and renewal of school facilities and resources; the City University system; and other services such as adult education and training programs related to public safety and emergency preparedness.

The City's educational priorities include working to improve academic performance; maintain and enhance principal and teacher quality; promote parental involvement; provide a safe learning environment; ensure adequate and well-maintained educational space; and enhance the status of CUNY institutions as quality sources of higher education.
