Inc. reports that New York City tops the list with 14 companies, edging out second-place Atlanta.
"For the third year in a row, the Inc. 500 list proves that New York City is the place for promising, privately-held businesses to grow," said Mayor Giuliani. "In addition, the New York metropolitan area leads the country with 34 companies on the list. I am pleased that Inc. has highlighted the growth and diversity of the City's businesses."
New York City companies on the 1999 Inc. 500 list include Alliance Group Consulting (# 3), Binary Tree (# 425), Concorde Flooring Systems (# 306), Citipost (# 406), Cyber Dialogue (# 163), ITS (# 337), Jupiter Communications (# 391), The Knitting Factory (# 90), Sanvision Tech (# 168), Spinecare (# 263), Total Containment of New York (# 401), Transaction Information Systems (# 471), Vector Strategic Resources (# 232) and Wall Street Services (# 228).
In recent years, computer-related businesses have made up the majority of the list, and they comprise 46 percent of the companies on this year's list. Former winners include Long Island City-based companies PC Ware International and Jade Systems, E*Trade, Microsoft, Oracle and Gateway. This year's Inc. 500 issue hits newsstands October 19 and features regional and local success stories, unusual innovations and entrepreneurs who have led their companies' growth.
Last year, New York City topped the Inc. 500 list with 15 companies. In 1997, New York City had 14 companies on the list.
